Joongmin Foundation for Social Theory launched Joongmin Forum on April 28. The purpose of Joongmin Forum is to open a space of deliberation where outstanding researchers and original intellectuals/thinkers are invited to discuss practical public agendas and theoretical issues which have important implications for the future of our society in the form of brainstorming debate in order to get clues and inspirations for new research and thinking. The first Joongmin Forum began with raising following question: how and where can we find the resources of new imagination and thinking to overcome the limit of the modern and to cope with impending problems of the global risk society within the East
Asian tradition? The first keynote speech by Prof. Tai-Youn Hwang (Dongguk University) was about ¡®the implication of the Confucian politics of empathy and the utopia of great harmony for the future of East Asia¡¯ and the second keynote speech by Prof. Sang-Jin Han (Seoul National University) was about ¡®East-Asian context of the second modern transformation¡¯. Connected to them, there was a heating discussion which all participants took part in.
