As the international academic community mourns the loss of one of its brightest stars, we are terribly saddened by the sudden news of Professor Ulrich Beck's passing. He was an inspiring sociologist who had a strong commitment to bridging the connection between research in Europe and in East Asia and opening dialogue for cooperation, and his cosmopolitan vision was instrumental in the establishment of EARN. Moreover, he was a wonderful friend and colleague, and we will dearly miss his kind smile and great sense of humor.
Our thoughts are with Professor Beck's family and his loved ones at this difficult time. EARN will do its best to realize his vision for deeper research connection between Europe and East Asia.
