Professor Ulrich Beck's passing has been widely covered in national news outlets in Korea. His theory of 'risk society' has been particularly significant in Korean society since the early 1990s. In his visit last July, Professor Beck gave inspiration and messages of hope to the Korean people who had recently been hit with the devastating tragedy of the sinking of the MV Sewol.
